Director: Robert Eggers Let's take a closer look 🔍Here are some fascinating photos behind the film.
Robert Eggers said he had been working on this film for over 10 years. When he was about 8 or 9 years old, he had his mom drive him to the mall just so she could get him a VHS of the 1922 Nosferatu.
In an interview with IMDb, he mentions his intrigue with the human condition of "who we are, where we're going, and where we came from."
Take a look at this lighting setup. Would you be ok this high up in the air? 👀
With only a handful of pre-screening reviews out there, it's hard to say how well this will be received by the public, or how it will stack up against Eggers lineup of 5 hit-and-miss films. Let's not forget his most recent film, The Northman. The Northman was controversially received as either incredibly boring, and a story told too many times, or loved for being artsy, violent, and revenge-filled, capturing the raw essence of its characters. While The Northman disappointed me personally, I'm willing to look past that in hopes that maybe—just maybe—Robert Eggers is going back to his roots and giving us a similar feeling and experience to what The Witch provided. In the the end, going in with tempered expectations and preparing ourselves for something that feels overly artsy would be most pragmatic for a decent popcorn film. Will you be seeing it in theaters?
